FAQ’s – Understanding German Schooling & Higher Education
1 Information about Betriebspraktikum would be useful. How to apply, where to apply etc?
Agentur für arbeit & directly with the respective companies. You cannot be choosy as the places get filled up soon.2 weeks to six weeks.
2 How to choose between gymnasiums in a city?
Check on the foreign languages they offer. Plan what you want to do at the university (majors). Depending on this, you will be able to decide. Some gymnasiums are good for languages, and some are good for languages.
3 Inputs of Transfer to Private to Public schools and inputs of moving to Gymnasium from other countries (India/US)?
From other countries, please make sure that you have the necessary level of German language requirements. Gesamtschule fits in best for transfer students.
4. We would like to understand the Abitur process.-preparation for Abi – how early to start and if there is any training support. ?
Start at the end of grade. There is support from Landesschulbehörde.
5 Could you provide any support for securing Praktikum/Internship?
Yes, Volunteering FTS itself is a good source.
6 Apart from Academics and sports, what other areas must kids concentrate on that can help with overall scoring to get into a good University?
Community outreach services.
7 Is it possible to repeat the Abitur to get a better grade (note)?
Maximum three attempts, including the first one.
8 How far is the IGS/Realschule relevant in the current and future with respect to the current industrial needs?
Yes, definitely. You can go to university or any internship with the Realschulabschluss.
9 some information about Notenschutz und Nachteilsausgleich how can this be obtained.?

10 Explain the Abitur scoring concepts, weightages for Theory and oral.?

11 Is there an option of doing something like polytechnic in India without doing Abitur.?
No
12 Difference between public and private universities and procedure to apply for the same.?
Public universities have a centralised application system. Documents to be ready at least 6 months in advance for foreign applicants.
13 selection criteria for top universities in subjects including medicine, engineering, law and Al?
Except TU, no formal requirements in major universities.
14 How does Abi help in getting into foreign universities including Netherlands, England, US and India.
Yes, it is definitely possible. Additional requirements are IELTS with a bandwidth of 7.0.
15 Do certificates earned in sports like Badminton and cricket help in scores for the entry in any university admission?
Yes, especially the top 9 TU’s in Germany.
